MGM CARNAVAL KICK OFF ON APRIL 15 - BRINGING LATINO FUN PARTY TO TOWN

[Macau, April 15] CARANVAL at MGM MACAU, the hot and most anticipated event kicked off today.  From now till April 24 (except Apr 18 & 19), MGM is hosting first CARNAVAL party at the VISTA II.

With an open terrace and magnificent ocean panorama, the VISTA II at MGM MACAU is the ideal venue to stage the Latin music with Samba dancers that rock all night.  It is also the excellent place to host the 20 meter long tent with alfresco setting. 

Prominent socialite and celebrity Ms. Faye Ho was invited to officiate the opening ceremony together with Mr. Grant R. Bowie, President of MGM MACAU. Followed by Mr. Bowie’s welcoming speech to all guests, the Carnaval officially started when Ms Ho and Mr Bowie put a long feather on top of giant sparkling mask. Guest were enjoying the specialty cuisines and drinks, passionate Latino music together with Samba dancing performed by hot Brazilian dancers.

MGM MACAU has especially invited the famous “SOTO” Band all the way to rock the house with Latino music. SOTO band have worked with many superstars such as Ricky Martin, Whitney Houston, James Brown and many more, and was the first Latin American band to perform in Beijing China. Famous party energizer, the SOTO band has definitely lived up to expectation; the aura of the whole house was lightened up to its highest point with its rhythmic beats.

MGM MACAU’s chefs prepare series of traditional Latin-American cuisines and specialty drinks, including Churros - Freshly baked churros rolled in cinnamon sugar with chocolate dip & dulce de leite, Carne de bife estufada com chouriço – Braised beef brisket and pork sausage with mashed potato and sautéed collard greens, Feijoada – Pork and beans casserole with rice, etc, to heightened the culinary experiences of a real fun CARNAVAL.

Originated in Europe in Medieval, Carnaval has now become a popular festive celebration among different regions and countries in the world nowadays. MGM MACAU Team Raised Highest Donation to ORBIS Raffle 2011

MGM MACAU TEAM RAISED HIGHEST DONATION TO ORBIS RAFFLE 2011

[Apr 11, MACAU] MGM MACAU team members raised a record-breaking amount of MOP123,000 for ORBIS Raffle 2011. Consecutively for 3 years, MGM MACAU has been the organization that raises the highest donation since 2009.

MGM MACAU team members have demonstrated their support and generosity for helping the visually impaired kids in the ORBIS Raffle campaign. In 2009 and 2010, the Team raised MOP73,000 and MOP103,000 respectively for the 10-MOP Raffle Sale, making MGM MACAU as the top fund-raising organization.  This year MGM’s donation amount reaches a record high as 13% of the campaign’s total donation value.

Riding on the success of 2009 and 2010, ORBIS Macau developed the Raffle Sale 2011 to continuously arouse support to visually impaired kids with 10-MOP value raffle tickets. The program received positive feedbacks from the community, as the raffle prizes are sponsored by various companies and organizations in Macau.

MGM MACAU not only sponsored a luxury Villa room stay as the Grand Prize of Raffle Draw, but also set up a sales counter at the employee area during the campaign period. Moreover, MGM also joins hands with ORBIS Macau to promote “ORBIS Eye Care Week” in March 2011, where MGM team members can learn about eye care knowledge and global blindness among children, through both mini image exhibition and “Eye-Q” card game. MGM team members contributed their generosity by raising record-high donation for helping the needlessly blind children.

ORBIS International is a nonprofit global development organization dedicated to saving sight worldwide. Celebrate the Year of Rabbit at MGM MACAU

CELEBRATE THE YEAR OF RABBIT AT MGM MACAU

Macau, February 3, 2011 – MGM MACAU held a lion dance ceremony and performance at hotel main entrance at 10:30am on Feb 3, the first day of new Year of the Rabbit, as the key program and prelude series of Chinese New Year celebration.

The ceremony began with a flag show with drum rolls. President of MGM MACAU Mr. Grant R. Bowie extended warm welcome to guests and wished all a prosperous new year together with the management team. The management team then officiated the eye-dotting ceremony, followed by a spectacular lion dance performance by the dragon and nine lions. Mr. Grant Bowie then lit 280,000 fire crackers bringing good luck and fortune to the property and guests alike. The lions then marched into Grande Praça to start the Golden Lions Dance Performance, where a Rascal the elf, rabbits and a trope of lions enjoyed dancing around the Praça which decorated into a Peach Blossom Garden. A traditional Chinese drum show immediately followed to cheer up the atmosphere with the roaring and vibrant rhythms. There were lion dance shows and drum performances in set schedule on the first four days of Chinese New Year(Feb 3--6).

In the Peach Blossom Garden, a gigantic LED pillar is stationed where guests are able to select and make a wish upon virtual sky lanterns from February 3 to 20. The Guinness World Record “Largest Dancing Lion” is featured in the middle as New Year Mascot.  This 2 meter high, 2.2 meter wide and 6 meter long enormous lion is 20 times bigger than a normal dancing lion.  As for the “Lights & Sounds” show in the evening, auspicious New Year animations will be projected on Grande Praça’s European façade, giving an extra dimension to the hotel’s truly east-meets-west character.

Adding to the list of Chinese New Year celebrations were gastronomic delights at MGM signature restaurants such as Imperial Court, Aux Beaux Arts, Rossio, etc. Each restaurant dishes were innovated with traditional culinary excellence combined with modern innovation. Guests may also enjoy the newly renovated Square Eight restaurant which offers both la carte menu and buffet.

The much anticipated “Golden Jubilee” Lucky Draw will give out a prize pool worth HK$3,008,888, with a weekly guaranteed prize pool HK$150,000. MGM MACAU Pre-Chinese New Year Lunch with the Elderly

MGM MACAU PRE-CHINESE NEW YEAR LUNCH WITH THE ELDERLY

[Jan 26, Macau] MGM MACAU hosted “Pre-Chinese New Year Lunch with the Elderly” at Meng Fai Elderly Home on Wednesday January 26 for over 120 senior citizens, which was organized by more than 80 volunteers from MGM MACAU team members.

Same as previous years, MGM MACAU initiated this event with elderly to bring warm greetings before Chinese New Year. The Volunteer Team members come from different departments and nationalities and pledged to serve the community by contributing their care to the needy elderly at their leisure time. On the event day, over 80 MGM volunteers arrived at Meng Fai Elderly Home prior the visit to the physically weak elderly and brought them New Year gift packs. The activity continued at the Hall where the Volunteer Team members had lunch with more than 120 senior citizens who came from Wui Fai Home for the Aged.

The gathering commenced with the MGM volunteer mascot “LEO” and traditional lion dance that cheered up the atmosphere. Chef Chow Chong not only designed a special menu of delicious and healthy dishes, but also interacted with the seniors with games. During lunch, the volunteers also performed their singing on stage before lucky draws and distributed gift packs. All participated elderly enjoyed the gathering in a fun and festive atmosphere.

“MGM MACAU team members are committed to contributing and supporting local communities.” says Ms Wendy Yu, Vice-President of Human Resources of MGM MACAU, “Since the establishment of MGM MACAU Volunteer Team in June last year, MGM members have organized and joined more voluntary activities in the aim of helping and sharing their joy with others. We will be more than happy to continue participating in various volunteer works to help those in need in local community.”

Representatives from the elderly homes added that they have received very positive responses from the elderly and expressed their thanks to MGM MACAU for putting together such a joyful and warm event before Chinese New Year.

MGM MACAU Extravaganza: An exceptional experience of old world culture, exquisite dining and entertainment

MGM MACAU EXTRAVAGANZA: AN EXCEPTIONAL EXPERIENCE OF OLD WORLD CULTURE, EXQUISITE DINING AND ENTERTAINMENT

[Hong Kong and Macau, 21 January 2011]  Presented by MGM MACAU and living up to every expectation, the MGM MACAU Extravaganza, an unprecedented ultra-luxurious themed dinner party, was held at the Aux Beaux Arts restaurant on Friday, 21 January 2011.  VIP guests and celebrities from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau all gathered at MGM MACAU to enjoy a night of stylish fun and exuberance.

Soiree Aux Beaux Arts

The highlight of the evening was a most innovative and exquisite haute cuisine dinner. Set in an early 1900 Brasserie in Paris the guests found them seated within a “musical”,   based on the 1920s painting of George Surat named “Sunday in the Park with George”.

Soiree Aux Beaux Arts was conceptualized and choreographed by celebrity event producer Alan Bailey, who is famed for extravaganzas from the Versace Gala Dinner at the Forbidden City, Beijing to the Giorgio Armani Exhibition at Guggenheim Museum USA.

The guests were treated to a night of delightful nostalgia and stimulation of every sense: sight, sound, touch, taste and smell.  Imagine Paris of the early 1900s, just before the roaring twenties, French Belle Epoque, the culture, art and lifestyle of the then upper class – all relived in Aux Beaux Arts Brasserie, MGM MACAU.  Time brought the attendants back to the Europe of a hundred years ago and for this special evening they all became part of life at a turn of the century brassiere.

The soul of this luxury party was the food.   MGM MACAU spared no efforts to make sure the night’s cuisine was crème de la crème. Aux Beaux Arts Brasserie’s Chef Elie Khalife and his team sourced top-grade winter ingredients from Tokyo, Fukuoka, Hokkaido and Tohuku, and whisked up an unconventional and most voguish French haute menu, combining his superb and exquisite French culinary technique and the most prized ingredients from Japan.   

From highly prized sea urchin to Akimo monkfish liver (known as the “foie gras of the sea”) and rare blue fin from the Tokyo Tsukiji fish market, the one-of-a-kind culinary journey continued on with the freshest and rarest seafood from Hokkaido including Sakhalin surf clam, Hokkaido sea scallops, king crab legs and black cod, as well as premium grade fruits and vegetables from Iwate, Fukuoka, including the rare “Amaou” strawberries (known as “king of strawberries”).  There was also the much sought after Grade 5A Maesawa Beef from Iwate, Japan, specially purchased during an auction in Tokyo and for which a special export licence needed to be obtained.  The Maesawa Beef is the ultra luxurious delicacy sold only in Japan and "Maesawa” is the trademarked brand of beef of the Iwate Agricultural Cooperatives.

This delectable tasting menu, specially designed by Chef Elie, will be officially launched at Aux Beaux Arts Brasserie after the MGM MACAU Extravaganza dinner party from January 22 to February 13, 2011 inclusive.

After dinner, the party goers enjoyed an interlude of fun and excitement at the newest VIP room in Macau, the Supreme Lounge, where they played a la Bond in a “Casino Royale” tournament, specially dedicated for the evening.  For those who preferred some rhythm and swoon, they continued the party with a once-only evening in the exclusive Lions Bar at MGM MACAU featuring Chris Polanco and his band Azucar Latina, famed for their Latin rhythms and hot jazz.

On the same day of the Extravaganza, MGM MACAU also launched an MGM-themed Turbojet, “Golden Lion Jet”.  The guests of the party all took this exclusive voyage to MGM MACAU, pampered from the very first step they departed from the ferry terminal in Hong Kong.

[Macau, Jan 21, 2011] MGM MACAU has refurbished a TurboJet vessel to new outlook with its golden lion brand icon as the “Golden Lion Jet”, which officially makes its debut on January 21, 2011.

The launch event was held at Central Pier 9 in Hong Kong. A champagne blessing and lion dance eye dotting ceremony were conducted by guests of honor Ms. Pansy Ho, Managing Director of MGM Macau, Mr. Grant Bowie, President of MGM Macau and Ms. Anna Hong, Deputy General Manager of Shun Tak – China Travel Ship Management Ltd.

Ms Pansy Ho stated that the Golden Lion Jet extends MGM MACAU’s brand essence to the voyage between Hong Kong and Macau, while combining the strengths of MGM and TurboJet to deliver the personalized and pampering service on sailing experience.  MGM MACAU will be in search of breakthrough ideas to expand the scope of premium service.

On the launch event, MGM MACAU also initiates a charity activity “Connecting 2 Cities with Hearts”. 1000 boxes of Macau signature favors “Choi Heong Yuen” almond cakes are given to Hong Kong’s elderly through the Hong Kong Society for the Aged, while the Golden Lion Jet also delivers 1000 packs of famous Hong Kong delights “Wing Wah” Chinese sausages to the Macau elderly and needy families through the Macau Juvenile Voluntary Association. As a socially responsible company, MGM MACAU intends to send warmth and love to the elderly and underprivileged families in the two cities before Chinese New Year as one of the celebrations of the launch of Golden Lion Jet.

DJ 2GreenDollars is an Australian Born innovator and pioneered Digital Audio Editing and Recordable DVD Technology. He has teamed up with Michael Jackson in the early 1990’s to remix a track from his “Dangerous” album. Known as a “Celebrity DJ”, DJ 2GreenDollars has performed at various venues and a diversity of clubs in all around the world over the past 25 years. He has remixed and relaunched careers of artists such as B.B. King, Chubby Checker, Janet Jackson, Kylie Minogue, Peter Andre, Bingo Boys, Black Box, Pretty Poison, East 17, Shanice and Lionel Richie, under his several nom-de-plumes throughout his career that spans a quarter century.

Vocational Training Program to Lift Quality of Local Human Resource

Macau – February 11, 2009 – MGM GRAND Macau announces its first partnership with Macau Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) in providing high quality training courses through the “Facilities Management and Casino Technician Trainee Career Program” for the youths of Macau. The Program is DSAL’s first partnership with a gaming operator and it provides a combination of theory, techniques and vocational training for those interested in pursuing a career in the fields of hospitality, facility management, as well as casino management and maintenance.

The development of this Program is based on the integration of vocational training and employment. While it offers hands-on experience for trainees, the Program also accentuates the role that business operators undertake in the provision of training opportunities. Both MGM GRAND Macau and DSAL look forward to establishing a new approach in the nurturing of local talents through this Program.

The 12-month Program emphasizes the combination of theories, skill development and internship. Applicants must be Macau residents, over 18 years of age with an educational background equivalent to Form 5 or above, and have either earned certifications acquired from electronics or mechanics courses or are currently working in the facility management or casino technical operations fields. Priorities will be given to those who have completed the “Electronics and Communications” or “Electronic Appliance Installation” courses offered by DSAL.

Each week, admitted trainees are required to contribute 36 hours of internship at MGM GRAND, while taking courses that focus on theories and technical skills at DSAL on two weeknights and the weekend. A monthly Program allowance of MOP9,000 will be given by MGM GRAND Macau (MOP7,000) and DSAL (MOP2,000), and a diploma will also be awarded to those who have successfully completed the Program.

Subsequent to completion, MGM GRAND Macau will select graduates who have achieved an overall excellence to participate in a six-month occupational training session, and they will continue to receive the monthly allowance of MOP9,000, fully granted by MGM GRAND.

As a commitment to corporate social responsibility, MGM GRAND Macau joins hands with the Macau government in conducting diverse and professional training programs in order to help bring the quality of local human resources to an international standard.

[Macau, July 10, 2008] The first traditional Indian Wedding of Mr. Sidaarrth Mutha and Ms. Niyati Karia was held in Macau on 10th July, 2008. The grand wedding ceremony took place at 10 am at MGM GRAND Macau. Supported with professional service from MGM GRAND Macau, this wedding was a unique and memorable one for the couple and Macau.
The engagement ceremony between Mr. Sidaarrth Mutha and Ms. Niyati Karia was held at “Ambey Valley” in India on 27th April 2008. The engagement function, based on the theme of an Indian Royal wedding was a grand celebration and set the tone for their upcoming wedding.

After their engagement, the couple began preparing for the wedding ceremony. They knew the venue would have to be a dream destination, one capable of being intimate for the couple but also memorable for family, friends and guests. It was decided that the wedding would take place outside of India. With their wedding planner, the couple began the search, traveling to many cities in different countries. When they had made up their minds to make this at a castle hotel in Istanbul, they found the booking there was full. At the same time, the groom’s father was visiting Macau. The groom’s father found Macau to be an ideal place for a wedding. And indeed he was correct, with Macau’s central location in Asia, world-class infrastructure, luxurious hotel accommodations, heritage sites, nightlife, spas, golf and many more attractions; Macau is positioning itself as a brand new destination for weddings. ABOUT THE WEDDING CEREMONY

Once the decision was made to hold the wedding at MGM GRAND Macau, the resort’s specialized team members began to assist the couple and their wedding planner with the details of their special day. In keeping with the traditional Hindu Marwari wedding with lots of rich Rajasthani culture, the wedding ceremony and festivities took place over five days from 7th July to 11th July 2008.

Prior to the guests’ arrivals, wedding planners worked closely with MGM GRAND Macau team to arrange and coordinate all the major décor to be shipped from India and assembled in advance to retain that grand Indian feel to the celebrations.

MGM GRAND Macau also worked closely with Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) on the arrangements so as to add even more magnificent and flair. A scout band is specially arranged by MGTO, and a horse was present at the GRAND entrance of the Hotel premises during the Barrat procession and ceremony. Performers dressed in ancient Indian armor and Indian dancers are in front, followed by a vintage car of the groom and slowly move towards the ballroom entrance for his bride. The bride is anxiously waiting for her groom’s arrival on the sedan chair, carried by her brothers. After the couple met, all guests cheered and expressed their blessings to the couple and proceeded to the ballroom for the ceremony.
Five hundred special guests invited by the two families traveled from India by chartered flights and ferries to celebrate this joyful occasion. With the Macau International Airport and ferry terminals only minutes away from the resort, guest arrivals went smoothly and efficiently.

Master chefs at the resort together with a team of 50 chefs from India worked under the guidance of famous Indian caterer and prepared delectable gourmet and homemade classics. And if exceptional cuisine, impeccable service and unsurpassed presentation were not enough, guests were treated to a combination of the traditional wedding ceremonial presentations entwined with the vibrant entertainment and performances by leading Bollywood artist, Rodney.

Cyril, a recipient of the top prize in the “Grand Illusion Category” from the Federation Internationale des Societes Magiques (“FISM”), was in Macau to tape a segment for his 14th two-hour television special which will be broadcast on leading Japanese network Fuji TV.

As this marked Cyril’s first visit to Macau, he made stops at the MGM Grand Macau as well as Macau Tower.

The Managing Director of MGM GRAND Macau Ms. Pansy Ho said, “We are honored to have been part of Cyril’s trip to Macau.
